Elegant Resorts releases collection of ‘luxury staycations’

Luxury tour operator Elegant Resorts has introduced a programme of holidays in the UK and Ireland. The new collection follows a

customer poll that found 60% of its clients were interested in ‘luxury staycations’. Hotels such as Gleneagles in

Scotland, the Merrion in Ireland and The Newt in Somerset are featured, as are private estates and castles such as Inverlochy Castle in the Scottish Highlands and Cromlix in Perthshire. Lisa Fitzell, managing director

of Elegant Resorts, said: “We discovered that although the majority still had the desire to take a luxury holiday abroad by the end of the year, there was also an increasing demand to enjoy the beauty and culture a little closer to home.”

Explore taps into demand for domestic travel with six tours

Phil Davies

Explore has introduced six adventure tours in the UK due to post-lockdown demand for domestic travel. Hiking and cycling breaks have been created as

domestic and regional travel starts to reopen following the Covid-19 outbreak. The new programme follows a survey of more than 2,400 UK travellers, which found that more than 75% of people would be considering a UK trip this year. Cycling through Northumberland, walking in

Snowdonia and the Lake District and a long weekend in the South Downs all feature in the programme. The trips follow the same formula as Explore’s

overseas tours, with small groups travelling with an expert local tour leader. The group stays in one hotel, which is accessible by train or car with car parking included, for the duration of the trip. A flexible booking policy enables travellers who book

through travel agents to change their trips with no fee up to 10 days before travel. Its Covid-19 refund promise pledges to refund anyone who is required to isolate as a

result of the virus, rendering them unable to travel. Managing director Joe Ponte said: “There’s currently

a huge appetite for exploring closer to home. “We’ve all spent several months getting to know,

and being surprised by, what is on our doorstep. Living in the UK we’re so lucky to be surrounded by varied countryside, historic sites and beautiful beaches. “Many people are desperate to get travelling overseas

again as restrictions lift, but we also recognise that many aren’t and would like their adventures to be on home turf this year. “This new range of small-group trips are specifically

designed for the domestic market, so our trade partners can offer their customers a range of trips seeing the UK in a new light, and in a way they couldn’t easily do on their own. “We still aim to surprise and delight, just as we do on

our international trips.’ Prices start at £499 per person for three nights

walking the South Downs while a six-night cultural tour of Northumberland leads in at £770 per person.
