Supporting travel’s restart and recovery A NOTE FROM THE EDITOR


Watching live broadcasts from Gatwick’s North Terminal on Monday morning, it was apparent how much interest there is in the return of travel, however gradual it may be. The future remains fraught, exacerbated by a continued lack of tangible support from Westminster, while the steady flow of announcements from firms forced to restructure and downsize is a stark reminder of the brutal environment we face (page 6). But alongside the reopening of non-essential retail shops this week, the coverage from Gatwick was at least a tangible sign of progress for the industry. It is this sense of forward momentum, albeit slight, that we aim to


nurture over the coming weeks and months with our focus on travel’s Roadmap to Recovery (page 10).


The focus is a pledge from Travel Weekly to do our utmost to support you as you look to


overcome the effects of this crisis, and we want to hear from you to ensure we are giving you the tools you need to rebuild your businesses. The content of this edition suggests there are signs of encouragement for the trade, whether that is agencies reopening (pages 4 and 18), Mark Swords looking at new business opportunities in his Agent Diary (page 17) or an additional News You Can Use page reflecting a growing number of product launches and updates (pages 15 and 16). And while our front page acknowledges that the events of this week are only small steps, any sense of momentum will be welcomed by an industry desperate to restart in earnest.
