AGENTS IN THE SWEEPSTAKE
Qualifying agents have now been selected – and their appointed countries confirmed – for The Great Travel Weekly Fifa World Cup Qatar 2022 Sweepstake. The 32 lucky agents, who qualified through Qatar’s new training programme, were selected in a draw conducted at World Travel Market by Travel Weekly editor-in-chief Lucy Huxley, Visit Qatar vice president of international markets Phil Dickinson and Qatar Tourism chief operating officer Berthold Trenkel. The 32 qualifying agents and their appointed nations are:
Everything in Qatar is so accessible. You could be lying by the pool one minute and, 45 minutes later, be dune bashing, sand-skiing or paragliding
MUSEUMS AND NEW PROJECTS The Qetaifan Island North area of Lusail – described as one of the “crown jewels” of Qatar – will boast a modern water park, private beaches, luxury hotels and beautiful gardens. There are a number of world-class, educational museums
in Qatar, including the Museum of Islamic Art, the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, and the National Museum of Qatar. Doha’s reimagined Hamad International Airport will
feature an art gallery, vast tropical gardens, a 268sq m water feature and a host of new duty-free shops to welcome millions more passengers each year.
SELLING OPPORTUNITIES Qatar Tourism is planning to host a number of travel agent fam trips to capitalise on interest. What’s more, one lucky agent will be jetting off to
the peninsula for a holiday if their team wins The Great Travel Weekly Fifa World Cup Qatar 2022 Sweepstake, with the teams now selected ahead of kick-off (see panel, right). Dickinson says agents should continue to take advantage
of its Qatar Specialist training programme. He points out that, by completing modules and obtaining certificates, they’ll be in a stronger position to promote Qatar and benefit from incentives including better access to fam trips. “There are many modules on the Qatar Specialist
programme: sales training, other training and all sorts of modules that agents can have a look at. We got a company in and invested heavily in [the programme],” he adds. “We want to create that community. We want to work with
Travel Weekly to see how we can be supportive of the travel trade. We know how important this is. We know the travel trade and travel agencies drive interest – they can convert a
customer. We want to see how we can support that.” i Watch the Phil Dickinson interview at

In addition, qualifying agents not assigned a country could win one of five places on fam trips in wildcard draws after each round.
