The best of your letters, comments and social media this week Plan B: So what is the right advice?

Story: Travel bosses to defy Plan B work-from-home advice The UK government’s confused reaction to Covid is doing exactly what many have predicted – sowing dissent, division and even more confusion. No one knows what the right thing is any more. These travel bosses have made decisions which are just as correct in this climate of misinformation as those who advocate isolating at home. Given the relatively stable hospitalisation rates, it suggests carrying on and living with this virus makes sense. Paul Bondsfield

Teletext: We need to know what went wrong

Story: CMA pauses court action against Teletext Holidays parent It is important that a court declaration is made and the unpaid sum identified. This company had a trust account but it appears to have been unable to refund money. If the CAA is going to push for segregation of monies in future, we need to see what went wrong to avoid it happening again. Alan Bowen

Sutton Travel @suttontravel Mr @grantshapps, it’s great that you’re supporting and propping up TfL, but what about the 1,000s of small travel agents and tour operators? They haven’t been offered/ given a single penny of sector-specific financial support over the past 21 months.

Support: I had none Story: Agents lobby Shapps on Twitter about lack of support Rob Haynes: Why the need for the ‘sector-specific’ part of the sentence? I’ve not had any support of any kind. One-person single-owner companies have been left high and dry and haven’t been able to claim a penny.

Quarantine: Agents’ role is to spell out risk

Comment: New testing restrictions are logical This is an age where a travel agent can show their worth. Clients had accepted that they might have to quarantine longer than they would like when they return home, but they do not want to do so overseas if they return a positive test result [under the new rules]. It would be reckless for an agent not to warn clients of this possibility. And if clients still want to take the risk, they should be advised to have adequate insurance to cover such an eventuality. Mike Silford

Gatwick Airport LGW @Gatwick_Airport He may be on the list, but even Santa is checked twice. We’ve gotta find out if he’s naughty or nice!

Safety: I won’t risk team’s health Story: Travel bosses to defy Plan B work-from-home advice Tim Hurrell: I’m currently recovering from Covid – it knocked me out for 10 days and wasn’t pleasant; in fact, it’s the most ill I’ve ever been. I’m a massive advocate of in-person working but there is no way I’m risking my team going through what I’ve been through, just because working from home is a bit more disruptive/less productive. I’m happy for my team to work from home for as long as it takes to keep them safe.
