To Travel, has been president of the association since 2019, and has been the SPAA’s spokesperson throughout the Covid-19 crisis. Te first Scotish female president of the SPAA,

Dooey also spearheaded the introduction of new agent awards and a scholarship programme to atract young talent when she first took the role. As vice-president, she was instrumental

in agreeing the return of Scotland’s largest independent travel agency, Barrhead Travel, to the SPAA in 2019 aſter 15 years, and oversaw the return of Tui to the group in 2020 aſter a decade and Hays Travel joining the association aſter acquiring Scotish-based shops from Tomas Cook. “I was totally shocked to win,” said Dooey. “I was

lost for words, which isn’t like me.” She said raising the profile of the SPAA with the public, and building relationships with government and within the industry,

were her proudest achievements as president. “Te SPAA has always been known in the

industry, but we’ve done really well on the PR side,” she said. “We are now regularly called for media interviews and that helps build trust in the SPAA and our members. We managed to help secure grants for Scotish travel agencies, and are asked by the Scotish government for our opinions. It’s been a trying time, but we’ve managed to build those relationships.” Dooey’s was one of several additional special

awards this year. Other recipients included Glasgow Airport, for outstanding support of the awards for more than 15 years; DFDS and Stena Line, for outstanding support for Scotland and the SPAA; and Travel Weekly, for outstanding support as a partner of the association and its awards for 25 years. Travel Weekly editor-in-chief Lucy Huxley,

who accepted the partnership award, said: “Te SPAA has long been the voice of travel in Scotland, and its leadership throughout the Covid-19 crisis has reiterated its commitment to supporting its
