Helping you navigate the journey ahead A NOTE FROM THE EDITOR
There was a palpable sense of relief for Tui as it finally took its first customers back to resorts last weekend, and that feeling will be felt by a raft of travel companies as they make their own slow return to operations in the days ahead. Travel Weekly joined Tui’s first flight to Ibiza, and you can read the
first-hand experiences of news editor Ben Ireland in this issue (page 8). Like features editor Katie McGonagle, who wrote about her return to domestic travel last week, Ben found certain aspects would take some getting used to, but overall said the experience was reassuringly familiar. And it is these first-hand reports, from our writers, our readers or your
customers, that will be crucial in building the confidence of those keeping a watching brief before committing to a booking – whether for this
summer or, more realistically, for the seasons ahead (pages 4-5). Last month, we unveiled our Roadmap to Recovery banner to mark a shift in focus from the immediate impact of the pandemic to the ways in which the industry will restart and rebuild. These reports will form a key part of that process, and from next week they will be bolstered by a host of practical resources from partner destinations and suppliers in a new Restart & Recovery Hub on
travelweekly.co.uk (page 6). Nobody in the industry is under any illusions that the journey ahead will be anything other than long and complex, but we will continue to do our utmost to provide you with the tools to help you navigate it.
