The best of your letters, comments and social media this week Cruise ban: FCO update relevant

Story: Agents brand FCO cruise ban ‘redundant’ It is naive to say that the update is “redundant”. Such a ban will contribute to a cruise line’s decision as to whether to recommence sailings from the UK and likely Europe. Asia sailings are likely to start again first followed by the US and the Foreign Office advice will remain in place for these. If there are no Covid cases reported, expect the restriction to be lifted. However, what are the chances of no cases being registered on the first few sailings? Dej

Derek Jones @Degsy_DJ Kuoni #eatouttohelpout is a pretty neat idea, but how about #goawaytosavetheday to get the overseas holiday business up and running again? Let’s start with a 10% voucher on any holiday booked before the end of the year. Come on @RishiSunak – this is a great idea! Let’s make it happen!

Shubhra Halliday @PrestigeShubhra Prestige Holidays Travel agents have never been more valuable. Speaking to a lot of them today, they are brilliant at guiding our mutual clients with updated information and having a better understanding of the current travel situation, which is not easy to decipher.

Tui: Covid cover ‘great’

Story: Tui unveils Covid-19 cover and summer programme expansion Well done Tui, great move getting the industry rolling again! Matt Stallard It would be fab though if [Tui] would answer the phones. I’ve tried to call all day every 20 minutes and still nothing! Kelly Tolley

Quarantine rules: ‘Agents will lose out’

Story: Industry ‘asked for inclusion’ of countries with restrictions on arrivals It may be good for airlines but if you have sold a break where the flights are operating and the hotels are open but [visitors have to] quarantine, who loses out? It’s not the airline. Alan Bowen

Hays: New office is ‘sensible’

Story: Hays Travel targets 100 Travel 2 staff with new Glasgow office Great news for Travel 2 staff and a sensible move in the current climate. John and Irene [Hays] are surely leaning more towards in-house tour operation using DMCs, with tour operator suppliers financially vulnerable post-Covid. Paul Hope
