The best of your letters, comments and social media this week Taskforce: Report so underwhelming
Story: Consumers ‘free to book holidays abroad’ says taskforce Is there anyone out there not incredibly underwhelmed by the taskforce report? We heard there would be “plans for a world-class marketing campaign” – I hope that is not going to be like the “world-class track and trace system”. And the government effectively said, ‘There will be a new traffic light system, but even if the light is green you have to keep taking tests even if you have been vaccinated and you are going to a very low-risk country. We admit the price of tests are a joke but, hey ho, if you want your holiday, that is the price you are going to have to pay as we don’t really want you going on foreign holidays.’ No wonder Johan Lundgren at easyJet was shaking his head in disbelief. That light at the end of the tunnel seems to be almost like a mirage for the aviation and tourism industries. Ian Cameron
Certification: It’s a tough balancing act
Story: US says ‘no’ to vaccination credentials as WHO restates opposition
It is a tough balancing act to both enable people to show they have been vaccinated but also protect their data. The last thing we need is a central database with all the details of those who have received vaccines – that would be a hacker’s paradise. Maybe a local certificate with the barest of details would be the way to go. Patrick Doyle
