Bivvy bag camping in Antarctica

Great Tides Waterpark

HX to boost Antarctica kayaking and camping capacity from October

HX Hurtigruten Expeditions will nearly quadruple its kayaking capacity and double its camping spots in Antarctica from October. The programme previously

offered only two to three-hour tours in two-person kayaks. But from the autumn, passengers will also be able to take one-person kayaks out for up to an hour within a marked area. A Discovery Kayak excursion

costs £112 and a Sea Explorer Kayak trip £199. Camping out in a sleeping

bag without a tent – bivvy bag camping – will be introduced to enable passengers to sleep under the stars. Prices start at £303. Two-person tent camping, meanwhile, costs from £371

per person. travelhx.com

NCL to open water park on private island in the Bahamas

Ella Sagar

Norwegian Cruise Line will open a water park next summer as part of the redevelopment of its private island in the Bahamas. Great Tides Waterpark on Great Stirrup Cay will

feature 19 waterslides, a 240-metre lazy river, cliffside jumps, dedicated areas for kids and adults, and swim-up bars. Eight of the attraction’s slides will spiral from the 50-metre-high Tidal Tower, which will have a conveyor belt to lift rafts to the summit. At the centre of the park will be Tidepool Town,

described as an “aquatic paradise for children of all ages”, which will feature a water-tipping bucket 12 metres above the ground and eight mini-slides. The immersive lazy river will feature an illuminated grotto tunnel to create the “ultimate multisensory

experience”, while the Jet Karts Track is described as a mini-aquatic racecourse that combines elements of go-karting and jetskiing. The pool, beach, sunloungers and food on the island

are complimentary for all passengers, and those with a More At Sea package will also receive beverages for no extra charge. Access to The Great Tides Waterpark will come at

an additional charge for passengers. The redevelopment of the island will also include

the addition of a pier to remove the need for tendering from ships, a 2,600sq m heated pool and a hammock area with tikis. Great Stirrup Cay and NCL’s other private island, Harvest Caye in Belize, will feature on most Caribbean

and Bahamas itineraries in spring and summer 2027. ncl.com
