Credit to Jet2 pilots for not threatening to strike

Story: Jet2 pilots seek improved work-life balance over pay rise Jet2 should do a deal with Tui or Norwegian to take some of their crews as they will have hundreds out of action due to the B737 Max grounding. It is refreshing to see how the pilots of Jet2 are loyal to the company and are not moaning about pay or threatening strike action but want their rosters and thus workloads reduced. I’m sure Jet2’s directors will listen and resolve these issues.

Flybe’s jet decision makes business sense

Flybe needs to make tough decisions, and removing the expensive jet services is a great option. While this is not good news for the affected employees, it will help keep many more in jobs. I’d rather see a smaller Flybe operation than none at all.

PAUL SEARLE Travel can be the tonic for Brexit healing

Comment: Travel can help to heal a divided nation The process of [Brexit] healing is going to be hard work, but we in travel can help as people love going on holidays. Of course, there might be a slight delay going through passport control, and we may get less for our pound, but over time these things iron out. So let us put a smile back on people’s faces. There is more to life than the dreaded Brexit and no better tonic than getting away from it all.

Flybe flew into its own media storm

Story: Flybe confirms withdrawal of jet services from four airports The refusal of Flybe to talk to the BBC this morning [April 3] was foolish beyond belief. It was the main business story on BBC Breakfast and Radio 5 Live. Did they really think they could hide and hope Brexit would overtake their

story? By 8am it was clear the BBC were running with the story based on what was happening, but Flybe wouldn’t talk. A few hours later, Flybe compounded the damage by announcing potential redundancies and base closures. Who on Earth thought that was a good idea? The truth is Flybe has lost so many crew it cannot operate the full timetable. Of

course there needs to be a major change in strategy. But when you are dying in the public arena, it won’t do your forward bookings any good to stab yourselves in the gut at the same time. Meanwhile, it had pumped out emails 24 hours earlier promoting 100,000 seats at less than £25 including APD. If I were a pilot, I’d be abandoning them too.

ALAN BOWEN, AGB Associates Travel Weekly would welcome a response from Flybe
