Silversea to introduce agent training on Covid-19 protocols

Lucy Huxley

Silversea Cruises is planning training and education for agents on new protocols developed by its parent company’s Healthy Sail Panel. UK managing director Peter Shanks said each of the

Royal Caribbean Group brands were adapting the 74 new protocols, to prevent the spread of Covid-19, for their particular line and would be communicating them with the trade first, then customers. “We want to give agents an understanding of how

these are going to work,” said Shanks, who is planning webinars for trade partners so they are fully versed in the new processes in advance of their customers. “In everything we do, we always try to give the

agents all the information first, then the guests,” he said, noting the same policy had been applied for cancellations. Silversea is now adding in a recommendation of a future cruise to switch to with every cancellation,

coupled with an incentive for both the agent and the guest to rebook. “We’re calling these voyage-to-voyage bookings,” he said. Shanks urged agents to be “ready” for a “really strong

return” to cruise sales and said Silversea plans to launch its summer 2022 and winter 2023 sailings early to be ready to capitalise on pent-up demand. The luxury line is creating a series of digital

brochures for its key regions: the Mediterranean, the Galápagos, northern Europe and Antarctica. “All the brochures can be top-and-tailed by agents so

they can then send them to their clients,” said Shanks. He added that Silversea was also “dipping its toe in

the water” creating its first piece of direct marketing for agents to overbrand and send out to their databases. Shanks said Silversea was also revamping its online

training academy and had launched a Silver Life initiative for past guests to join Zoom calls with cruise directors, crew and onboard chefs. silversea.com
