Gear wheels can be 3D printed
Cost-effective, lightweight and maintenance-free bearings and cable management systems were shown by igus. Developed to combine
the advantages of the E2/000 and E4.1 in one product range, the E4.1L has interior clip-in slotted separators that save up to 80% assembly time. Additive manufacturing, or 3D printing, was another key focus for the show. The company’s online configurator
enables engineers to configure gear wheels. Entering the specifications (tooth module, number of teeth, width and inner diameter) automatically displays a 3D model that can be exported as a STEP file and uploaded onto the online 3D printing service.

Machine tool range meets subcontractors’ demands
It is essential to be as flexible as possible and to be able to advance seamlessly to the next level of technology, says Hurco. The company’s machine
tool range is designed specifically to meet this demand. The same Max5 control is fitted to the simplest three-axis machining centre, the high specification five-axis machines and the firm’s entire lathe range. Conversational prompts guide the user through
the programming process. There are canned cycles for all of the usual routines, calc-assist to find intersection points and clear graphical representation on the nine- inch colour LCD screen. The VM5i, three-axis
machining centre was also at the show. It provides full machining centre performance, despite requiring a space that is less than 2m in height, depth and width. It provides 8,000 rpm and 7.5kW of power from the spindle and has a 16-station automatic toolchanger. There was also the
updated XP version of the TM8i lathe, with some control system
enhancements.
