Nontechnical skills, including situational awareness,
decision making, leadership, communication, and team- work, may affect team communications. Nontechnical skills have been extensively studied in aviation and have been added to training programs for pilots. Although tools for observing nontechnical skills have been validated for other professional roles in the perioperative setting, a standard- ized tool has not been developed for observing nontechnical skills in the perioperative registered nurse (RN) role. Vali- dated tools for observing nontechnical skills in the perioper- ative environment include Observational Teamwork Assess- ment for Surgery (OATS),67,68 (ANTS),69
Nontechnical Skills for Surgeons (NOTSS),14,70-72
Anesthetist Non-Technical Skills and

The lead author requested additional articles that either did not fit the original search criteria or were discov- ered during the evidence appraisal process. The lead author and the medical librarian also identified relevant guidelines
