Bathtub to a shower – a smart solution with a tailored Plug & Play system from wedi
W
hether you are travelling on business or on holiday, if you stay at the Marriott Hotel in
downtown Copenhagen, you are guaranteed relaxing moments in a luxurious ambience. The complete modernisation of bathrooms in this 5-star hotel contributes to the overall experience – thanks to the tried-and-tested wedi system solutions, guests can now enjoy invigorating showers. The world’s leading hotel chain entrusted the bathroom and wet room specialist wedi with the renovation of 406 bathrooms. The clients were looking for a solution that not only fulfi lled the highest standards in terms of design and quality, but could also be installed quickly without requiring much coordination between trades on site. Thanks to key advantages such as the
prefabrication of components during manufacturing according to individual specifi cations,
they chose wedi’s clever
plug & play solutions. 122 bathrooms over three fl oors (9-11) have already been renovated in this idyllic waterfront hotel after fi ve months of construction. Not an easy task to say the least, especially because the hotel must remain operational during the entire renovation.
Low construction height: Fundo Integro
The transformation of the bathtubs into low-threshold showers formed the central part of the project, and the biggest technical challenge was the implementation of the drainage as desired by the customer – due to
the local legislation an overfl ow was
required. wedi took on the challenge and made this possible in a smart way: a custom- made version of the Fundo Integro shower element has been developed especially for the Marriott Hotel with both a point and a linear drainage integrated into the shower element, whilst keeping the total installation height at an incredible 93 mm!

The best of all: Seamless design surfaces from wedi The ready-to-install Fundo Top surfaces from wedi ensure the luxurious look of the new wellness showers; instead of tiles underfoot, the clients opted for large format, tailor-made design surfaces in “fl ake white”. Thanks to their shapes and slopes being coordinated with one other, the Fundo Top simply needed to be bonded to the Fundo shower element. Top design surfaces however make not only the cladding of shower fl oors but also the cladding of walls straightforward. The design surfaces are anti-slip and waterproof in the overall wedi system. With everything prefabricated in the factory precisely fi t together on site,
the intelligent system
concept eliminated the need for complex installations and labour intensive tiling & grouting. Overall, this not only saved a lot of time, but also meant signifi cantly less noise and dirt during construction.

Satisfaction of all parties involved This was not least due to the effi cient interaction of all those involved. The local
team on site and the wedi technology and production in Germany have overcome all challenges, and the project went smoothly. The result is exclusive and inviting: the groutless appearance transforms both the fl oor and the wall areas into a visual delight. The interplay of light and the fl akes within the wedi Top material create refl ections that highlight the fl uidity of water conveying a serene, contemporary look. The thoughtful design marries form and function into a seamless and invigorating shower experience, so no wonder why the new bathrooms at the Copenhagen Marriott Hotel attract the attention of international guests.
