EXPO 2025 CZECH PAVILION, JAPAN APROPOS ARCHITECTS
Apropos Architects have won an architectural competition for their sculpted, upwards glass spiral design of the Czech Pavilion for EXPO 2025, to be held in Osaka, Japan. The pavilion is located at the edge of the coastal promenade, and its glass facade pays homage to the history of glassmaking in the Czech Republic. The barrier-free spiral ramp of the exhibition space wraps around the multifunctional auditorium. With an internal diameter of 15.5 metres, it rises to a height of 12 metres above ground level. The exhibition ramp rises along with it, and its movement is mirrored by the ramp with seats for visitors inside the auditorium, which can be entered from several points throughout the spiral. The capacity of its exhibition space is 402 m2 and the width of the ramp varies between 1.8 and 7 metres. At 12 metres, the ramp opens to a spacious terrace with a restaurant and bar with views of the sea, as well as through the glass skylight down into the auditorium. The concept is based around a load-bearing structure consisting of a regular framing system of CLT wooden panels, divided into 36 segments within a single turn around the auditorium.
