The fi rst part of this book follows the structure of the play. Romeo and Juliet is divided into fi ve sections, known as Acts. Each Act is split up
into several scenes, some of which are more important than others for your exam preparation.
At the beginning of each Act, a spider diagram shows what you are about to learn, followed by the essential vocabulary for the Act.

Key moments for special study are identifi ed in colour. Left-hand pages give important points about characters, relationships, language, imagery, stagecraft, themes and performance. At the end of the Act, you will be
able to show what you know in the Portfolio. Finally, in your Portfolio, you will
have a checklist of what you have learned to do.
