Animal Lifesavers to the Rescue Babu

On the morning of 11 March 2011, Babu the shih tzu was acting strange in her home in the coastal city of Miyako, Japan. The 12-year- old dog wasn’t actually keen on exercise, but that morning she insisted on going for a walk. So her 83-year-old owner, Tami Akanuma, snapped on the leash.

Babu immediately took off toward a nearby hill. Each time Akanuma slowed her pace, Babu looked back, seeming to urge her owner to hurry up. When the pair arrived at the top, Akanuma turned around and was shocked by the sight. A giant tsunami wave had slammed into her town, swallowing up her house.

Lulu

On 4 August 1998, Jo Ann Altsman had a heart attack while home alone. Altsman tried to summon help by yelling and breaking a bedroom window, but nobody could hear her. Her potbellied pig, Lulu, sprang into action. The super swine squeezed through the doggy door, pushed open the garden gate, and waited by the roadside until she saw an oncoming vehicle.

Then, the plucky porker trotted onto the road and lay down in front of it! When a motorcyclist stopped to see what was the matter, Lulu led him back to Altsman, where he called an ambulance.
