In these units you will be studying the frequent word families which are listed in the Academic Word List Sublists 1–5 (see Appendix 1 for the full version of all the sublists).
You will look at the following aspects: ■ Meanings of words ■ Multi-meaning words ■ Word classes ■ Word families ■ Collocations ■ Word grammar
The first two tasks will establish the meaning of the words, before looking at them in more detail in a similar way to how you studied the General Service List words in Units 1–5 of the book.
Each unit ends with a word list containing words and phrases from the unit which occur frequently in academic English. These do not necessarily correspond with the Academic Word List in Appendix 1.
