Dartmouth’s side streets are packed with unique and vibrant small businesses but are often overlooked. If you do the same you are missing out on some quintessentially special Dartmouth experiences. Just a short walk from the riverside are a wealth of pubs, cafés, restaurants and shops which are well worth exploring.


Enjoy a coffee or a cream tea (cream first of course!) in one of the Market Square’s outdoor cafés, while watching the hustle and bustle of market day. Why not browse the stalls and small shops that line the Square and pick up some gorgeous gifts or mementos of your visit to Dartmouth? If you’re looking to sample the freshest of fish from our local waters than Mark Lobb’s Wild Food Devon fish counter is a must!


Across the road pick up some delicious artisan bread for breakfast or treat yourself to an exquisite cake from the French patisserie. Over


in Anzac Street browse Fashion Alchemy for some new or pre-owned clothes and accessories from leading fashion brands followed by a curry at The Spice Merchant or a


contemporary European meal at the Anzac Bistro. A short walk from here along Victoria Road takes


you to the Seale Arms (live music and scrumptious pizzas).


As you walk past the ancient St Saviours Church, you’ll see the Seven Stars which is the oldest pub in Dartmouth. Further along Higher Street is the Cherub which is the oldest building in Dartmouth. These fine mediaeval buildings are a reminder that this area was once the commercial heart of Dartmouth. On Smith Street, enjoy a light lunch, afternoon tea or evening drink at the Smith Street Deli, the Singing Kettle and Yarn respectively.


If you keep on walking up Newcomen Road, you’ll find Nash & Duff, an independent lifestyle shop - “handmade, designed and curated here in Dartmouth”.
