UNITI Mineral Oil

In April 2017 it is happening again: The lubricant industry meets for the annual UNITI Mineral Oil Technology Congress in Stuttgart. Prior to the event LUBE Magazine spoke with Edwin Leber, Managing Director of the UNITI Mineralöltechnologie GmbH, which hosts the Congress every year.

SJ: In recent years the UNITI Mineral Oil Technology Congress has experienced an impressive development and is a well-known and popular event even on an international level with about 600 participants. How did the event receive such global recognition? EL: When I joined UNITI in 2009, we developed a completely new concept. Besides establishing an advisory board for the program with renowned experts from the industry, bilingualism (offering the event not only in German, but in English with simultaneous translation) played a significant role in the internationalisation process. But not only single

improvements are needed to establish an event on an international level in the long run, but a variety of measures.

SJ: There is definitely a great deal of interest two months prior to the event. How is the feedback so far? EL: Yes, indeed, we have experienced remarkable support not only from our participants (ca. 350 early bird bookers) but also from exhibitors and sponsors. The exhibition stands are sold out for weeks.

SJ: What makes the UNITI Mineral Oil Technology Congress stand out from other events regarding lubricants? EL: The main difference is that the Congress is organised by UNITI – a well-known association which keeps the primary focus on the needs of members and the industry rather than an organiser that works on a purely commercial basis without appropriate expert background. Again and again, our benchmark studies confirm our excellent cost-benefit ratio. In addition to UNITI, the Congress receives support from our

cooperation partner ATIEL as well as the English industry association UKLA and our European lubricant association UEIL which are also important renowned European associations.

SJ: As the name already suggests, the Congress does not only cover lubricants. What will be the main topics in 2017? EL: When it comes to selecting the program we look for lubricant subjects as well as recent trends from the fuel sector.

Based on the main task of the UNITI-Mineralöltechnologie GmbH within the association to gather the technical know-how and because of its representation in international committees we are always up-to-date with the latest trends and developments and are familiar with current worries and hardships of the industry. With this in mind we create the best conditions to fulfill the high expectations of our participants as best we can.

Always active for the lubricant industry: Edwin Leber, Managing Director of the UNITI-Mineralöltechnologie GmbH. The engineering graduate has organized the UNITI Mineral Oil Technology Congress in Stuttgart since 2009 and developed a popular and renowned international meeting point.

Technology Congress A special Congress for fuel and lubricants

personal contacts cannot be replaced by any means. This is where our Congress offers an excellent platform. Many visitors confirm that they appreciate the chance to meet lots of people face-to- face throughout the two days and thus avoid business trips and high costs. Another very important aspect is our comprehensive trade exhibition. It is only accessible to members and offers a quiet atmosphere – without much bustle- perhaps for special discussions.

SJ: Last year, also pre-seminars were offered. Is this planned in 2017 as well? EL: As our pre-seminars were very well received we will offer this again. Lots of participants take special advantage of it without additional costs, which is not often the case. What they like in particular is that they can choose between two main topics: The Nynas pre seminar – Industrial lubricants – or the Neste pre event – sustainability mobility impacting future fuels & lubricants.

SJ: By and large, an important aspect of such meetings is the exchange of experience with fellow specialists. What kind of communication opportunities will be offered during the event? EL: Apart from specialist presentations, the so-called “networking“ is becoming increasingly important. Despite the fast growing number of social networks,

SJ: It sounds like an interesting event once again. What tips would you give to participants or interested visitors? EL: Yes, we did everything we could to provide a high-quality event once again. Although there are enough seats in the auditorium, I would like to point out that the participation for the pre-seminars is restricted due to capacity reasons. The riding hall, where the evening event takes place, has almost reached its maximum capacity as well. If people are interested, we recommend quick registration to ensure participation and at the same time this helps us to facilitate the final organisation. I also recommend investing some time into personal event planning to get the most out of this Congress e.g. by early scheduling of appointments with exhibitors or participants.

SJ: Many thanks for the interview and continued success!
