Applications With its enhanced wear resistance, high temperature performance coupled with a significant cost saving potential over PFPE, the Molykote®
G-9000 Series lubricants give the
industry a wider range of application options compared to traditional silicone lubricants. The new copolymer lubricants can be used in a large variety of industry applications, especially where high temperature and wear resistance are required.
With a lower specific gravity and high-temperature and oxidation resistance, Molykote®
G-9000 Series lubricants offer
improved performance over ester greases in many applications where temperatures exceed 180°C.
Greases with Phenyl/Fluoro Copolymers Additional tests were undertaken which focused on the use of various thickeners to formulate greases based on the new copolymer fluid. These greases can be prepared using lithium complex or lithium soap thickener systems, and also using Polyurea, PTFE, and other commonly available thickeners on the market. As an example, Table 4 shows greases thickened by Li-complex soaps and PTFE. The table demonstrates that the phenyl/fluoro greases show excellent high temperature resistance and are suitable in applications where a broad service temperature range is needed. The preparation is similar to that of greases using polydimethyl, polyphenyl or polytrifluoro silicones. Non-additized Li-complex greases based on the phenyl/fluoro copolymers show low bleeding behaviour and good corrosion protection at high temperatures. The wear resistance of the copolymer greases is much better compared to other siloxane based greases. Additionally, much like the neat phenyl/fluoro copolymer fluids, the performance can be further improved by adding appropriate additives.
Molykote®
G-9000 Series lubricants also offer protective benefits
over PFPE. While it is inert and resistant to most chemicals, PFPE will not accept common additives such as corrosion protective agents. The new lubricants are compatible with a variety of additives, including corrosion inhibitors, antioxidants and AW/EP additives.
On a more practical note, an additional benefit of the latest Dow Corning lubricant is that allows users to fully clean parts and components much more easily when re-lubricating, especially in comparison to PFPE fluids.
Furthermore, initial trials have also shown that this new copolymer lubricant is stable at elevated temperatures in the presence of Lewis acid such as aluminum trichloride.

G-9000 Series oils and greases are expected to be an excellent lubrication solution for a broad range of industrial applications such as: • Metal processing • High temperature bearings • Automotive underhood components • Paper corrugating bearings • High temperature equipment • Textile equipment • Tire molding • Injection molding equipment • Heat treatment furnaces
