Company Profile: Augmentium Limited

Augmentium Limited is a search company focused on assisting companies in the chemical and oil industries that are looking to strengthen their teams in technical, commercial, or senior management positions. Augmentium’s founder, Natalie Tidbury has extensive experience in recruitment at all levels up to and including Director level, with six years specifically focused on the lubricants, additives and speciality chemicals industry. Natalie has worked with major additive companies, lubricant manufacturers, speciality chemicals companies and lubricant distributors. Previous to her work in lubricants and additives, Natalie recruited across a range of levels in the IT industry, to both the public and private sector.

Augmentium’s focus covers speciality chemicals (personal care, Homecare and Plastics), lubricants (automotive, industrial, marine and base oils, additives), and additives (fuel additives, engine oils, industrial, and aftermarket products).

Augmentium offers specifically tailored and targeted recruitment solutions which work alongside a client’s own recruitment practices. Natalie’s knowledge of the industry and her understanding of the specialised challenges faced by it, enable her to guide both clients and candidates effectively. CIPD qualified (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development ) in Human Resources, Natalie is also able to understand the demands currently being placed on HR departments and the wider company. She is acutely aware of the exact needs of HR departments under pressure to find the right talent in given timeframes and within budget constraints.

Natalie works in a number of ways, including contingency or retained, and is always trying to work with a client’s needs and priorities. “The aim is to find the right person for a role, who will add value to a business. Sales targets are not our priority at Augmentium, but rather the building of relationships that will last for years. Many of our relationships are long term, but we are continually seeking to create new ones via pro-active means and are always open to confidential conversations with candidates or clients.”

Natalie explains, “Through experience we know that the relationships with clients and candidates which are successful are the ones built on trust and understanding. We take an honest and open approach right from the beginning so everything is transparent and straightforward. Long term relationships are key within the industry as is an understanding of the scope of the roles that we are undertaking work on.”

While Augmentium itself is based in South Manchester, the scope of its’ business covers the UK, Europe and some more international roles. Natalie says, “We cover a range of roles including Technical Managers, Product Managers, Sales and

Marketing Directors, Sales Engineers and Regional Business Managers. Sometimes clients require a combination of skills which can be difficult to find and searches can be time consuming. This is where it is useful to have an external recruitment partnership where the primary focus is on searching for the candidates who are not necessarily out there actively looking for work and are potentially less accessible.“

Natalie Tidbury

Natalie points out that while many companies are choosing to do much of their recruitment directly to cut costs, particularly in the current climate, there are advantages to using a good external search supplier. A good search company will have access to candidates who are not actively on the job market but who may move for a new opportunity if it arose. Sometimes an approach by a search company can help in circumstances where a company does not want to make a direct approach itself. There are also occasions when a search company can offer alternative approaches to a recruitment project specifically when the search is a particularly difficult one. For smaller businesses a search company can offer valuable assistance when it comes to interview processes, for example where there may not be a specific HR function.

Whilst Natalie knows that there are now a number of recruitment firms venturing into the industry, she is clear that companies generally want the specialist knowledge of the market and Augmentium can offer this at competitive rates. Natalie says, “We are always open to approach and recommend that if a client is looking to use an external search provider but has concerns, they give us a call to talk.” Augmentium’s website can be found at www.augmentium.co.uk.
