2015 UKLA Annual Dinner SPONSORS:
On a cold and foggy November evening in London three hundred leaders of the lubricant sector were joined by UEIL President Fabio-Dalla Giovanna at the Jumeirah Carlton Tower for the United Kingdom Lubricants Association’s Annual Dinner, hosted by UKLA President Hugh Dowding.
The evening started with a champagne reception, where the great and the good of the industry caught up with colleagues, customers and old friends alike. Some visitors were rather alarmed to find their watches and wallets go missing but thankfully this was due to the talented pickpocket who had been engaged to entertain us throughout the evening and I believe all valuables were eventually returned to their owners!
President Hugh Dowding began the awards ceremony by presenting the UKLA Young Employee of the Year Award recognising the next generation of leaders for our sector. This year’s winner was Miren Uriguen, Multisol Ltd.
Miren joined the lubricants industry in 2009 as a multilingual Customer Service Coordinator for Zenteum Ltd, quickly gaining the respect of her peers as her responsibilities grew to reflect her growing experience. In 2010 Miren was promoted to the position of Customer Account Coordinator and promoted again in 2011 to Commercial Assistant, supporting multinational key
accounts within the Multisol/Brenntag Group. Miren has always had a positive outlook towards her work and is respected by her colleagues, customers and suppliers alike; she consistently demonstrates commitment above and beyond the expectations of her employers. Congratulations Miren.
The President’s Award was presented to Rod Pesch, former Director General of the UKLA who celebrated fifty years working in the lubricant sector this year. Rod started his career working as a laboratory assistant with Regent Oil based in Hertfordshire before moving into Caltex and Texaco as well as stints in Q8 and Afton, before finally ending up as a Global Sector Specialist at Chevron.
Rod came to the attention of UKLA firstly as the lead trainer for the Certificate in Lubricant Competence course. More recently Rod took on the role of Director General of the UKLA in 2012 until last year.
The Special Award of Council is awarded for an outstanding achievement or contribution to our industry that is both definable and whose impact is felt right across our sector.
The Verification of Lubricant Specifications was launched in 2013 The aim of the programme was and still is to ensure that customers could continue to have full confidence in the performance and physical attributes of lubricant our products.
