UKLA President’s Report
As we approach the end of 2025, it’s a fitting time to reflect on what has been a dynamic and encouraging year for the UK lubricants industry. Despite ongoing economic pressures and supply chain adjustments, our sector has continued to demonstrate remarkable resilience and adaptability—qualities that define our members and the broader UK lubricants community.
One of the highlights of the year was the UEIL Annual Congress, which brought together industry leaders from across Europe. It was particularly pleasing to see such a strong UK presence at the event, underscoring the continued importance and influence of our market within the wider European lubricants landscape. The exchange of ideas, innovations, and collaborative spirit on display was inspiring and bodes well for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
Closer to home, the UKLA Annual Dinner once again proved to be a wonderful celebration of our industry’s achievements and community. The event offered a chance to reconnect with colleagues, celebrate our collective successes, and recognise the individuals
UEIL President’s Report
As 2025 draws to a close, it’s a pleasure to look back on UEIL’s work in ensuring that the lubricants industry’s voice is heard clearly in Brussels and beyond.
Our public affairs work has included engagement with EU institutions and policymakers, including an event in the European Parliament hosted by MEP Massimiliano Salini, vice chair of the European People’s Party (EPP) on the role of the lubricants industry in delivering a competitive, energy-efficient and sustainable future.
Through the expertise in our committees, UEIL has also contributed to key European Commission consultations on topics such as the Bioeconomy Strategy, EU–US tariffs, and the Motor Vehicle Block Exemption Regulation, and continued our active participation in Commission expert groups such as the Ecodesign Forum and the Motor Vehicle Working Group as well as ECHA’s SEAC and RAC meetings on PFAS. We are also planning engagement with the institutions regarding the potential inclusion of two-stroke oils in ETS2.
Collaboration has remained a cornerstone of our approach. The UEIL–ATIEL Joint Sustainability Committee hosted webinars on Product Carbon

As we look forward to 2026, sustainability, technology, and skills development will remain key themes shaping our work and focus. Together, we will continue to advocate for the highest standards, innovation, and collaboration across the lubricants value chain.
On behalf of the UK Lubricants Association, I wish all our members, partners, and friends a joyful Christmas and a healthy, prosperous New Year spent with family and loved ones.

A highlight of the year for
me was undoubtedly the 60th Annual Congress in Stresa, where over 200 participants from 19 countries came together for a programme was filled with thought-provoking presentations challenging us to think differently about the future of our industry. I thoroughly enjoyed discussing the key trends facing the lubricants industry – from sustainability and innovation to evolving regulations and market dynamics.
The work does not stop here. With major EU initiatives such as the REACH revision and other key legislative files on the horizon, 2026 will be decisive for our industry. I look forward to engaging actively with EU policymakers and stakeholders to shape a regulatory framework that drives innovation, promotes sustainability, and strengthens competitiveness, while safeguarding the interests of our members.
