INDUSTRY NEWS Dr. Raj Shah receives ASTM International’s highest honour
Dr. Raj Shah, Director at Koehler Instrument Company, was awarded the ASTM Award of Merit – which is the highest society award granted to an individual member – at the ASTM Annual meeting in June. ASTM International is a globally recognised leader in the development and delivery of voluntary consensus standards, that are used improve product quality, enhance health and safety, strengthen market access and trade, and build consumer confidence.
With more than 30,000 of the world’s top technical experts representing 140 countries, ASTM practices support industries and governments worldwide. Being
awarded the ASTM Award of Merit is a rare honour and it accompanied by the title ASTM Fellow. Dr. Shah, was overwhelmed and humble to receive this recognition from his peers. He reminisced on his 30 year journey, talking about his first ASTM meeting as a rookie and the path that has led to him now being presented with this award 60 meetings later, and offered words of appreciation to his colleagues, mentors company and family who have all helped and supported him these last 3 decades.

WAVEtek Process Technology, LLC’s Dr Lou Honary receives prestigious award
Lou Honary of WAVEtek Process Technology, LLC was the recipient of the Ralph Beard Memorial Academic Award at the NLGI Annual Meeting held in June. The award acknowledges valuable work within Academia, in the technical development of greases, grease tests, or the promotion of grease usage.
Dr Honary said: “I was honoured to receive this prestigious award. At this stage in my career, I find greater joy in supporting and recognising others, as I believe such awards have the most impact when given to younger and up-and-coming professionals.

That said, Ralph Beard was a good friend and a true role model for giving back to one’s community. He often sought my input during our annual meetings about his vision for advancing tribology education, and I recall how passionate he was about establishing a program at his alma mater. Today, Auburn University hosts a thriving tribology program - thanks in large part to Ralph’s enduring efforts. I am deeply grateful for this recognition, especially one that carries his name.”
