Conclusion Additives are a fundamental part of any lubricating oil formula. They increase the positive properties of lubricants and minimise undesirable ones. Most importantly, they enhance the overall performance and reliability of base oil by adding new features to them. That is why it is essential to select reliable lubricants that consist of high-quality additive packages.


Mineral lubricants pose a significant threat to the environment due to their low biodegradability, potential for contamination, and long-term persistence in ecosystems. They can pollute soil and water, harming plants, animals, and humans, and contribute to air pollution. While life cycle of the biodegradable lubricant is different, which is shown below.


This is why more and more attention is given to biodegradable lubricants. Luckly technology development of additives is going along with this need for biodegradable lubricants.


As always there is still more to be done, especially regarding getting a bigger number of companies producing this kind of additives. By doing this, the quantities of these additives available on the market would be much higher and price would eventually be lower. This would lead to a bigger amount of environmentally friendly lubricants present on global market and a healthier environment.
