UK INDUSTRY SURVEY RESULTS1 COMPETITIVENESS1


PROVISION of NEW TRAINING SERVICES.


This year's BLF Autumn seminar was held in Cheltenham at the UK Headquarters of Gulf Oil (Great Britain) Limited on Wednesday 27 September 1995. We achieved the best attendance yet. 90+ delegates were welcomed by Colin Chapman, Lubricants Divisional Manager of Gulf Oil (GB) Ltd. to their splendid offices. lan Meadows, President of the British Lubricants Federation introduced each session and the various speakers.

The Keynote speaker was Dr Bob Dobbie, Dr Bob Dobbie


Head of Competitiveness Division at Cabinet Office. Dr Dobbie reports directly to Rt. Hon. Michael Heseltine. Delegates showed great interest in his talk, especially his interesting presentation and lively two way feedback session on the relevant competitive position of UK pic compared to other nations.

results of the BLF's survey into the state of the UK's Lubricants Industry, conducted on the Federations behalf by The Lubricants Consulting Company. Richard Meads and Bethan Devonald were LCC's presenters. Copies of the full report were provided to attendees.

The BLF has taken an active part in helping shape some of the College's lubricants courses and members were given a rundown on the College organisation and the detailed content of their many Lubricants related courses. Places are still avail- able to members for 4th quarter 1995 courses. The last session set out the BLF's Implement-


ation Plan for the introduction of new services, to provide training to help address the problems identified during the recent BLF Industry Survey. The new services will be phased in gradually over three years, to ensure we provide and maintain a quality service. The BLF intends to provide a New Programme of Conferences, the opportunity for members to take part in

Innovation unit from Thorn EMI presented a paper on Innovation. This topic was well received. It certainly gave a greater understanding of how organisations can adapt this concept to improve their businesses.
