The Midlands Golf Day made the Ryder Cup look like a 'pitch and put'. With seventy five golfers and eighty six members and guests attending the dinner, the event was hailed as a great success . New competitions abounded, including a putting competition which will be put forward for use in next year's Krypton Factor. A myriad of prizes were fought for, won and presented, with the major prizes being as follows:
BEST GROSS SCORE, The Joseph Batson Trophy - Steve Martinson, Blagden Packaging (Steve scored 73).
MEMBERS PRIZE, The Edgar Vaughan Rose Bowl - Roger Newton, Newton Oils Ltd.
VISITORS PRIZE, The Ernest Newton Trophy- Les Marguerie, Eastham Refinery Ltd.
GREAT BRIDGE TROPHY- Colin Garwood (below right), Rhein Chemie.
John Cross of GATX Terminals Ltd, won the Castrol Shield for the par 3 Competition. This was the first year this trophy had been presented.
quality system were evident throughout the plant, as it forms rhe backbone of their quality system. The group went on to ·visi r the Milton Keynes Materials Recycling Facility. Plysu recycle HDPE collected by and processed ar the Milton Keynes central recycling scheme.
Paper, cardboard and other materials are also sorted at the centre, then barched up and fed back to industry for re-use. Plysu target to re-use 1000 ronnes each year of HDPE mainly from used plastic milk bottles, for inclusion into newly blown plastic bottles as parr of a sophisticated laminar walled borde. The trip was hosted by John Pameley ofPlysu.

The Sponsors Competition was played the following morning in good spirits (it had helped disperse the bad spirits consumed the night before) . The winner was John Hornerr (above left) of Harnett Bros & Co. Lrd with a score of 36, (runner up was Bob Banks of Houghton Vaughan plc with a score of 35).

Next Year's Golf Day will be held on 11 July 1996 and will rake place on the Windmill Course. The Sponsors Competition will rake place rhe following morning on the Hawkstone Course.

LONDON BRANCH London Branch's technical visit this year was to Plysu Containers Ltd and the Mil ton Keynes Recycling Facility, which was developed in conjunction wi th the 'Community Recycling Opportunit ies Programme (C.R.O.P.)'. 76,000 properties are covered by the scheme.
A parry of 15 were invited to visit Plysu's HQ and main factory in Woburn Sands on Wednesday 13th September. During the tour around their plant rhe rigours of their BS EN ISO 9000
This year's Dinner Dance, 96 attended, was held on the 29th September at the Jarvi-s Parkway, Leeds and was oiganised by Dick Sheppard of Lineal. Ir was again a great success. Members were entertained by the group Sheer Magic and an illusionist
who amongs t his many other tricks , managed ro cur Vice President Stephen Lord's wife Hilary in half. Fortunately Hilary survived rhe event. This year's band - Masque - were also excellent and kept young and old on their feet rill rhe evening's fi nish ar 1:00 a.m.
