Ingrid has had an extensive career in leader- ship roles in children’s publishing, first as m.d. of Reed Children’s Books (now Egmont) and recently as m.d. at Simon & Schuster. Ingrid is also the creator/co-author of teen series Girls Can Vlog!, published by Macmillan, with translation rights sold in 14 languages.


Farrah Serroukh CLPE


Farrah, who taught for many years in inner-city primary schools, is inter- ested in ethnic minority achievement, language acquisition and children’s literature. At the Centre for Literacy in Primary Education (CLPE), she co-ordinates the partnership and regional work as well as leading the Reflecting Realities programme and research.

David started his career in journalism, working with the European Commission before moving into children’s publishing, where he worked with Poetry Ireland/Children’s Books Ireland, Penguin Random House Children’s Books, Brown Bag Films and Scholastic.


Jane Steventon Awesome


Jane is a programme maker, working in adult and children’s scripted drama. She has worked in various roles at Disney, CBBC, BBC Drama, Lime Pictures and now Awesome, with an agenda to offer hidden stories and unheard voices through compelling content.


Melanie Stokes Kindle Entertainment (Lionsgate)


Melanie is currently executive-producing “Kiss Me First” with Bryan Elsley (“Skins”) for Channel 4 and Netflix. The company’s first feature film, “Four Kids and It”, is based on Jacqueline Wilson’s bestselling book. Melanie has also execu- tive-produced “Dustbin Baby”, an award-winning BBC One drama.


Joanna Surman HarperCollins


Jo leads HarperCollins’ digital team and is responsible for product and innovation, audio, new business develop- ment, e-commerce and backlist e-books. Jo joined the digital team more than 10 years ago, and has been at the helm of it since 2016.


Jaclyn Swope Nielsen Book Research


Jaclyn joined Nielsen in 2013. She works on the book research team, where she assists a variety of publishers with understanding and utilising both retail sales and consumer data, through training sessions, presentations and bespoke analysis of book industry trends.


Alison Tarrant School Library Association


Alison has worked as a school librarian and was on the Honour List for School Librarian of the Year in 2016. Alison was a trustee for the School Library Association and chair of Youth Libraries Group Eastern before her appointment as director of the SLA.

Rachel began her book career at Lonely Planet, commissioning illustrated armchair travel books. In the UK, she has worked for Phaidon Press and Templar. In 2014, Rachel moved to The Quarto Group to start Wide Eyed Editions alongside Frances Lincoln editorial director Jenny Broom.

Kate is the founder and m.d. of Nosy Crow, a multi-award-winning chil- dren’s book publisher that launched in 2011. In 2017, Nosy Crow was named Children’s Publisher of the Year at the annual awards ceremony of both the Independent Publishers Guild and The Bookseller (The British Book Awards).


Jiayang (Jason) Yuan Beijing International Book Fair


Jiayang started working for Beijing International Book Fair in 2010 and has gained extensive knowledge of the Chinese publishing industry through his daily dealings with both Chinese and international publishers. Jiayang now oversees the planning and operation of BIBF.
