Louise Johns-Shepherd CLPE


Before joining the Centre for Literacy in Primary Education, Louise was head-teacher of two schools and a senior leader in the Primary National Strategies and National College of School Leadership. Louise is also the governor of a primary school and a judge for the Amnesty CILIP Honour Medal.


Sarah Larter DK


Sarah has worked at DK since 2003, first as managing editor before moving into the role of publisher, leading a key children’s list and the DKfindout website. She has been DK’s children’s publishing director since August 2017.


M G Leonard Author


M G Leonard is an award- winning and bestselling writer of kids’ books. Her Beetle titles are sold in 37 countries, and she is currently working with Nevision on a screenplay based on the trilogy (see p08). She has worked as a digital media producer for the National Theatre, and at Harry Potter West End and the Royal Opera House.

Alicia has a decade of experience in cultural brand-building in lifestyle and entertain- ment. After working in the Mayor of London’s strategic culture team, she launched her career as a consultant, advising international brands including London Book Fair, Beijing International Book Fair and the BBC.


Billy Macqueen Darrall Macqueen


Billy is co-m.d. of Bafta-winning indie TV production company Darrall Macqueen. In the past 30 years he has produced and created more than 5,000 hours of kids’ content for major broadcasters in the UK and internationally. Billy’s recent credits include “Topsy and Tim”, “Teletubbies” and “Waffle the Wonder Dog”.


Gráinne McGuiness Paper Owl Films


Gráinne is the co-founder of Paper Owl Films and creator of “Pablo”, the pre-school series depicting what life is like for a five-year-old boy with autism. With “Pablo” series two in production, Gráinne is developing a slate of projects that create fun and meaningful content for younger viewers.


Rebecca McNally Bloomsbury


Rebecca leads the chil- dren’s trade publishing division of Bloomsbury, where she is responsible for fiction, non-fiction, pre-school and picture books. Bloomsbury Children’s Books won Children’s Publisher of the Year at the 2018 British Book Awards.


Liza Miller Hachette Children’s Group


Liza started her career at Templar Publishing in 2011. She has since edited chil- dren’s books at Templar, Walker Books and Hachette. Liza has worked with award-winning authors and spoken about inclusivity at the London Book Fair, and is secretary of the International Board on Books for Young People UK.


Jeff Norton Awesome Media & Entertainment


Jeff is an award-winning author, writer-producer and founder of Awesome, a UK-based production company. Awesome will soon launch its own publishing imprint, Awesome Reads. Jeff’s first novel, MetaWars: Fight for the Future (Hachette), is a high-tech thriller that’s spawned three sequels to date.

Kiera is The Bookseller’s charts and data editor and is the author of two children’s books, published by Hachette Children’s.

Andrea Reece Forward Arts Foundation


Andrea joined the Forward Arts Foundation as manager for National Poetry Day in 2017. Prior to that, she spent most of her working life in children’s books. She is managing editor of Books for Keeps and director of the children’s and young people’s programme of the FT Weekend Oxford Literary Festival.


Eli Rezinsky Frontier


Eli has more than four years’ experience as an economist. He currently works in Frontier’s public policy practice. During his time at Frontier, he has focused mostly on policy, impact evaluation and behavioural econom- ics. Prior to Frontier, Eli worked as an analyst in the public, private and non-profit sectors.


Stewart Ross Author


Stewart is the author of more than 300 books, many of them for children. He has won prizes includ- ing the Scottish Arts Council Children’s Book Award and Saltire Society Children’s Book Prize, and has taught creative writ- ing to undergraduates. He is currently writer-in- residence at two schools.
