HAZEL BROADFOOT DESCRIBES A DAY IN THE LIFE
We do kids’ events as well. We had Rob Biddulph in the autumn in a theatre, for a family Sunday aſternoon. We’ve got other projects in the background too—a new events programme and a new website. If we have an event, I’ll be hands-on there, then come back to the bookshop, pack up to leave everything here to check book requests and other things. My favourite part of the day is unpacking the new books, it’s like Christmas. You get to feel and inhale the lovely new books, that’s nice. And I love the dog therapy. We nearly always have a tin of shortbread on the go, it’s a sort of nod to my Scotish- ness. Sometimes, if you’re having a stressy morning, a cup of tea and a really nice shortbread is just upliſting. Generally, I clock off about 6.30 p.m., but sometimes it can be 10 p.m. before I leave the shop. Then I go home and put my feet up, and read a book.
