att Haig’s The Midnight Library leapfrogged Richard Osman’s The
Thursday Murder Club to claim the Audible chart number one for March. Narrated by Bafta- nominated Carey Mulligan, Haig’s fiction title entered the Audible chart in second place in August, when its hardback was released. Upon its paperback release in February, The Midnight Library soared straight into the Official UK Top 50 number one—Haig and publisher Canongate’s first overall print top spot in the Nielsen BookScan era—and its Audible edition leapt back into the top four. Now, for March, it’s climbed all the way into the top spot. Has the
pandemic strengthened fiction in audio format? Traditionally, non- fiction has performed better in the Audible chart, with fiction solid but unspectacular and children’s, aside from the Harry Potter titles, non-existent (although dominant in the physical audio charts).
