in vibrant community offerings. Efforts are currently underway by the City, Main Street, Parks and Recreation, Tourism and others to create a pedestrian-friendly downtown that will attract addi- tional restaurants, which create retail opportunities and more! The relocation of the train to anchor Depot Park combined with the streetscape project will provide a huge boost to this effort. In addition, the new fun park and activities along Rockford will create places for families to gather. The need to include our major employers in providing input for options was identified. Sharing information and collaboration are essential for success.
GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS Increasing voter
engagement was a key issue discussed at the retreat. The need to better facilitate voter
registration, information and actual voting is necessary to move our community and state forward. Ideas were discussed on possible activities to increase engagement. In addition to voter engagement, there is a need to create a pipeline of individuals who will educate themselves and run for elected office. The Chamber, Leadership and AYP are in the process of creating opportunities to participate in “boot camps” or classes to provide valuable information to those considering public service.
Over 30 individuals participated in the exchange of
ideas. At the end of the session, the level of excitement and commitment from those present was incredible. Opportunities for all area citizens will be identified soon – stay tuned and if you would like to be a part of our process, call the Chamber.
