THE HEAT IS ON

elcome to the August issue of kbbreview. The UK has been experiencing some of the highest temperatures on record recently as British summertime bites – and that’s not the only thing heating up at the moment. In our news section, which starts on page

four, we bring you the latest on changes to UK competition law, which says brands can now sell to internet retailers at a higher price

to help protect showrooms. We also get the online retailer perspective as James Hickman, CEO of Plumbworld, wades in on the debate [pg 23]. The other big industry news is that Buckinghamshire New University has confi rmed it has dropped the Foundation Degree in Kitchen Design from its course offering for the 2022/2023 academic year. Although the students currently enrolled on the course will be able to fi nish their studies, it is a major blow for the industry, in particular the individuals that have been campaigning to raise industry standards and professionalism through education for years [pg 6]. This month’s kbbreview interview is with VitrA UK’s MD Levent Giray

[pgs 26-27]. As he prepares for retirement and to hand over to new boss Steve Breen, in his fi nal industry interview he refl ects on the vast changes he’s seen during his 30-year career and why, despite all of those changes, independent retailers will always be the backbone of the KBB industry. Elsewhere, our shopfl oor analysis looks at the importance of client

recommendations and what does and doesn’t work when it comes to actively encouraging happy clients to tell their friends and family about your business [pgs 29-31].

As well as our usual insightful supplier profi les, product features,

retailer interviews and case studies, we also bring you a round-up of the latest trends from this year’s EuroCucina and Technology for the Kitchen (TFK) exhibitions in Milan. After a four-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the show was defi nitely back with a bang.

As always, your feedback on these and any other topic covered in the issue is greatly appreciated.
