Becker Avionics’ next-generation digital intercom system, the AMU 6500, is offered in parallel with its current industry- leading DVCS 6100. The AMU 6500 offers several new features such as 3D audio and bluetooth compatibility.
The 3D audio function enables features such as a separation of engine-out warnings to the appropriate position on the aircraft. In complex command-and-control missions when the pilot or crew are required to monitor more than one frequency, one frequency is channeled to one ear and another frequency to the opposite ear. The brain’s ability to focus on one side while the other side has traffic is remarkable.
Many of today’s advanced tactical handsets incorporate bluetooth capability. Becker Avionics’ AMU 6500 can be paired with these handsets. Also, cell phones or mp3 players can be enabled.
The new AMU 6500 negates the need for the Remote Electronic Unit (REU) as required on the DVCS 6100. This results in a lighter-weight system and saves precious space on the avionics rack.
“I’d say the AMU is truly the audio panel designed by aircrews and for aircrews. You really have to experience the capabilities of the system to appreciate the difference. The 3D audio environment created by this system is like the difference between flying with a wet compass and turn and slip, and flying with synthetic vision.”
