Recoil’s Tsunami Aerial Firefighting System T650-E Tank Helps Control Major Korean Fire
Recoil Aerospace Inc. (Recoil), designer of aerial fire suppression systems (AFSS), deployed its Tsunami T650-E tank system for the H225 Super Puma during a major incident.
Kentucky-based Recoil equipped the Republic of Korea’s 119 Rescue Program with the Tsunami T650-E Aerial Firefighting Tank System in its H225 Super Puma helicopter fleet.
October’s fire incident involved a major industrial structure fire in a large manufacturing facility with a dangerous volume of heat and fire pushed by strong winds. An estimated 30 buildings were either damaged or destroyed.
Conditions forced firefighters on the ground to work from a distance, requesting assistance from the agency’s H225 firefighting helicopters.
The Recoil Tsunami-equipped H225 Super Puma proved effective in slowing the advance of the fire perimeter with precise water drops and rapid turnarounds, given industry-leading airspeed ability.

the operations in 2023.
Recoil’s low-profile aerial suppression platform mounts directly to the fuselage, eliminating
external longline bucket
operations, yet requires no modifications to the helicopter landing gear. Install and removal occurs in minutes.
A performance upgrade in capabilities from legacy external water buckets, the Korea 119 crews are able to fly over urban population centers without the hazard of underslung, jettisonable loads.
“From a pilot’s perspective, the Tsunami AFSS is robust, fast to fly, reliable and highly maneuverable,” says pilot Joseph Rice, Recoil’s president. Aerial suppression efforts become more efficient given rapid turnarounds and rapid response to incidents.

“Merging carbon fiber with a direct- mount approach leads to effectiveness, longevity, maintainability in the field and lower operating costs,” adds Rice.
