Airbus and USCG celebrate 40 years of Lifesaving Dolphin MH-65 Fleet
Airbus and the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) recently celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Airbus MH-65 Dolphin helicopter fleet supporting the USCG’s vital lifesaving missions. In honor of this milestone, the Coast Guard station out of Houston, Texas flew in an MH-65 to meet the Airbus team responsible for their ongoing support at the Airbus Helicopters’ facility in Grand Prairie, Texas.
Forty years ago on Nov. 14, 1984, Airbus Helicopters in the U.S. delivered the first Dauphin AS366 GA (also known as the MH-65) to the USCG from its facility in Grand Prairie, Texas. From that moment onward, the USCG went on to receive a total of 107 Dauphins. Collectively, the USCG’s MH-65 fleet has saved more lives and interdicted more illicit drug traffic than any other helicopter in the world. The figures speak for themselves with 1.8 million flight hours, one million missions completed, and 26,000 lives saved or assisted. What’s more, the USCG plans to keep them flying until 2037.
