he largest nation in Scandinavia, Sweden is dominated by water. It boasts the most islands of any country in the world with more than 221,000 (some as small as a one- car garage), while ranking 5th in the number of lakes at least 25 acres in size at 22,600. Known for its high standard of living and its developed economy, it also has a strong commitment to social welfare, democracy, environmental sustainability, and the preservation of nature.


But don’t let the progressiveness of this culture fool you. Swedes live by a special philosophy called “lagom” that’s been around since the age of the Vikings. It roughly translates to “moderation” — not too little, not too much; just the right amount.
