Enstrom file photo Enstrom Announces First Flight of New 480B

Enstrom recently announced the flight of the first new 480B Helicopter after reopening just eight months ago. The turbine- powered 480B is the 1,317th Enstrom helicopter built, and the 255th 480 series helicopter. This aircraft wasn’t an unfinished leftover airframe, but was built using components procured, machined, fabricated, and assembled on-site.

The stunning black and grey helicopter was piloted by Enstrom Production Test Pilot Cody Parkovich. “It flew great,” said Parkovich. “No issues. We were able to complete all our flight test steps on schedule. The team did a great job putting this helicopter together.”

Enstrom Chief Operating Officer Adam Richardson had this to say. “This was a critical milestone in our plan to not just bring back Enstrom, but to start to reinvent ourselves and the way we operate. It took all functions to focus on the objective. New supplier relationships, new machinists and fabricators and luckily many from prior years, better print definitions, a high standard of workmanship, and everyone on-site helping each other cross-functionally to bring us back online.”

The new helicopter will be showcased at HAI. Stop in Booth C2820 at Heli-Expo to see for yourself. Enstrom will retain the aircraft and use it to certify new upgrades and planned future improvements.

Surf Life Saving Queensland Purchases the First Entrol H14 FTD Level 5 Simulator in Australia

Entrol will install its first Australian H14 FTD Level 5 simulator based on the Bell 429 by mid-2023 in Surf Life Saving Queensland’s base in Archerfield Airport, on the eastern coast of Australia.

This simulator will be equipped with real GTN 750 and GTN 650 units, Entrol’s cylindrical visual system with a 200º x 40º field of view (FOV), Entrol’s high-end vibration system to replicate in- flight scenarios, and a forward-looking infrared camera based on FLIR.

“We are proud of the trust Surf Life Saving Queensland has deposited in us. Installing our first simulator in the continent will be a great achievement for us; we are happy to have reached our goal with Surf Life Saving Queensland,” states Nacho Navacerrada, head of sales for Entrol.

“Some of the benefits to Surf Life Saving Queensland pilots utilizing the Entrol FTD device based on the Bell 429 include improved safety and emergency procedure training, cost efficiencies, variable scenario selections, and the ability to integrate and train with other aircrew procedures and activities,” said Ken Clark OAM, Surf Life Saving Queensland’s general manager of aviation.

With the installation of this device, Entrol will have a presence on five continents, achieving an important milestone for the company.
