LCI Launches First Helicopter Co-Investment Vehicle

The new LCI helicopter ownership vehicle contains five aircraft all on long-term lease – three Leonardo AW139 and two Sikorsky S-92 units – and is valued at over $100 million. It has been launched in partnership with Flexam Tangible Asset Income Fund, which contributed to the capitalization. LCI will also act as servicer for the vehicle.

Jaspal Jandu, chief financial officer of LCI, said: “LCI is delighted to lead the helicopter leasing sector in launching this new form of ownership vehicle. It enables investors to participate at a specific transaction level, and we are delighted to be partnering with Flexam, whose professionalism in asset financing has been instrumental in executing this transaction.

“There has been strong interest in our first co-investment vehicle and, as a helicopter lessor with a proven platform, management team and track record, we look forward to building upon similar frameworks in the future.”

Fabrice Fraikin and Florian de Sigy, both partners at Flexam Invest, said: “The helicopter leasing marketplace is a dynamic one offering many investment opportunities. LCI is a leading lessor in this space, possessing unrivaled experience and breadth of knowledge. Its track record as an aviation lessor is greatly respected by the financial community, making them an ideal partner for Flexam.”

LCI first entered the helicopter leasing marketplace in 2012 with a $400 million order for a fleet of Leonardo AW139, AW169 and AW189 aircraft. Since that time, it has developed a proven leasing platform that today is renowned for the ownership, management, and servicing of a fleet approaching 100 aircraft.

These are in operation across four continents in multiple sectors including offshore wind, emergency medical services, search and rescue, maritime pilot transfer, and offshore oil and gas.

LCI’s fleet now comprises approximately $1 billion of assets in service, on order and under control, focused on the latest technology medium and super-medium helicopters manufactured by the leading helicopter OEMs including Leonardo, Airbus, and Sikorsky.

Metro Aviation Welcomes Duke Life Flight to the Metro Family

Duke Life Flight has officially joined the Metro family of operations customers. The hospital-based traditional air medical program, part of Duke Health, will also be receiving two new EC145e aircraft with Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) capability.

“Metro Aviation’s commitment to improving the safety and quality in the air medical industry is unparalleled; we are excited to partner with a company with whom we share common goals,” said René Borghese, Life Flight administrative director.

Life Flight was founded in 1985 as the first hospital-based emergency transport service in North Carolina. Today, Life Flight flies more than 900 critical care transport cases a year and incorporates nurses, critical care paramedics, advanced life support paramedics, and a dedicated neonatal/pediatric transport team consisting of nurses and respiratory therapists. In addition to responding to accident scenes and hospital transport requests, the team is able to provide care to patients who require specialized equipment such as extra-corporal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP), and nitric oxide ventilation.

“Duke Life Flight has been a leader in air medical transport since it began over 30 years ago,” said Metro Aviation Chief Operating Officer Kenny Morrow. “Our relationship with Life Flight began in 2012 with the delivery of two EC145 aircraft, and we are honored to further that partnership by providing aviation operations for a program that has demonstrated innovation and a commitment to care since its inception.”

TrafficView from LXNAV Certified

The TrafficView and TrafficView57 displays from the company LXNAV have now been certified as FLARM Compatible in the category ‘Primary Display.’ Certification in this category makes it possible to install the display as the main display connected to FLARM devices that don’t have their own display.

Features like the new Alert view, Head-On Alert view, and a TCAS view will help pilots quickly identify threats and decide on the appropriate resolutive action. The displays can be found, together with other certified displays, under the ‘Primary Displays’ category in the ‘Product Selector.’
