Big movements, little people


As early years experts, we know that our littlest learners are some of the most keen explorers, especially when it comes to physical development. It’s not unusual to observe them desperately trying their luck on the big kids’ climbing frames and playground equipment without realising that they’re too little.


It is important, though, to give toddlers the opportunity to take risks from time to time. Doing so in a controlled environment is instrumental in helping them build confidence and essential gross motor skills as they move, climb and coordinate.


In need of some inspiration? We can help! Here are four physical


development activities to get those little hands and feet moving.


Rocky mountain way 1


Small climbing frames are a great way to give your little ones the feeling that they’re playing like the ‘big kids’ without the added dangers. Set the scene in which the climbing frame is a ‘mountain’ and challenge the children: “Who can climb to the peak of the mountain?”. Encourage them to use one step and hand forward at a time and make use of climbing holds as they go. The children will thrive as they take on the challenges of the climbing frame, building their strength and balance with every move.
