Storytime is a fantastic and fun way to bring the whole nursery class together. We asked three nurseries to put a selection of our animal themed story sets to the test.
St Chads Church of England Primary School Nursery, Leeds
Did the children enjoy the story sets? We shared the stories and the puppets with
small groups of children and then let them play and retell the stories themselves using the puppets. All the children in the group responded very positively to all three stories and really loved handling the puppets too.
Did they have a favourite? There was no clear favourite as different
children liked different stories best. The animal puppets in ‘Dear Zoo’ were especially popular. I think the sacks would be a great addition to an early years classroom as having the puppets helps engagement and allows the children to use story language in a purposeful way when retelling the stories while playing with the puppets.
Would you recommend them to other
nurseries? I would definitely recommend them to other nurseries. The stories are well known and popular with young children, the puppets are good quality and I think would last if well looked after. I would also find them useful as resources to support ‘Talk for Writing’ sessions, where children learn and orally retell a story. Part of this process is to enhance areas of provision with resources to support retelling the story, and these puppets would be a very useful resource for this too.
How would you rate the story sets
out of 10? I would rate the story sacks 9/10, the only thing I wasn’t keen on was the bright yellow sacks they came in, but that is only a personal opinion!
