Welcome to the latest edition of

Little Learners In this issue, we’re learning through fantasy and imagination.

Children need to make sense of the world and imaginative play is a child’s way of acting out various experiences they may have had or something that is of interest to them.

They’re experimenting with decision making on how to behave and are also practising their social skills. Children learn from experience: from what happens around them, from what they see, hear, smell, taste and touch. To absorb those experiences and make sense of the world, they need to be engaged in imaginary play.

Explore their fantasy world through our range of activities focussing on space, pirates and fairies. We’ve got some great ideas to help develop their imaginative and creative skills; they can turn a collection of rocks into a galaxy in outer space; pretend to be pirates who set sail in search of treasure or discover how a simple garden twig can be transformed into a magical fairy wand.

A big thank you to our guest blogger, Maria Motley, Unicorn Nursery Manager, who kindly shared her story and experience of developing intergenerational relationships between her nursery and a neighbouring care home.
