Children in Reception class in England should be taught how to grip a pencil properly and how to sit correctly at a table, says Ofsted. Inspectors say a third of five year olds do not have the essential knowledge and understanding they need following their first year at school. Read more at the bbc

From January 2018, Ofsted will give schools one or two years before the next full inspection, if they are no longer rated as ‘good’ following a short inspection. This allows schools more time to address weaknesses and should minimise the burden on schools. Read more at the Department for Education
