New Year’s resolution solutions


And how to stick to them…

It’s the start of the spring term; HOORAY! The seemingly all–too–short Christmas holiday is well and truly over; humbug and good riddance, say the nay–sayers. The general excess in just about everything that is Christmas Day has, thankfully for some, long gone. The credit cards are stretched to near breaking point. And the emotional rollercoaster many people ride over the Christmas Eve to New Year’s Day period has, well, probably levelled off a bit by now, for better or for worse.


New Year, new me


It’s also the time that many people make one or two New Year’s resolutions. These are personal resolutions or goals, usually to change an existing ‘bad’ habit or adopt a new ‘good’ habit of some sort, or both.


For teachers, popular ‘Health and Wellbeing’– related resolutions include: exercising more (yeah, right); ‘healthier’ eating and drinking (say no more); managing time better (you wish); managing money better (as if); managing stress better (in this job?); striving for a better ‘work–life’ balance (what balance?); spending more quality time with partners, family and friends (if only); and finding a much better paid and less–stressful job with no kids in sight (yay!) – only joking about that last one; you know you love teaching children really. By February, if not by about now, the evidence from past years suggests that most people will have failed miserably in their goals. How depressing.
