Stress management tips for teachers

John Harrison Learning and Development Business Partner at YPO

There is a lot of extra work being created right now to make sure COVID–19 rules are adhered to in school. New research from the charity Education Support shows stress levels have been increasing among teachers since going back to school last autumn.

In October, 84 per cent of teachers described themselves as stressed, compared to 62 per cent in July.

Teachers said things like organising and maintaining pupil bubbles, the possibility of testing positive for COVID–19, and concerns over pupils’ learning loss and behavioural issues were some of the main causes of extra pressure.

With all this in mind, it now seems more appropriate than ever to provide some stress management tips, that you’ll hopefully find helpful.

Let me start out by saying, although this article is written in a light way, I do understand the impact prolonged stress can have, and I can speak from personal experience the significant impact acute stress has had on my own mental health. This article is designed to provide a range of practical solutions that could support people with managing stress, and we will follow up with a second article in the next edition.
