Using Ten Frame Tray (YPO code: 801775)
A game for two players requiring two Ten Frame Trays, a 1–6 die and a set of 10 natural objects from your outdoor space: different leaves, stones, and so on.
This summer will be accompanied by an easing of restrictions that were necessary due to Coronavirus. We can look forward to sunshine and greater outdoor learning opportunities. Outside is a clean air, language–rich environment in which children can benefit from some of the communication and learning that they may have experienced less of due to the lockdowns we have all lived through.
Here are some ideas for Reception and Key Stage 1 that you can take outside!
The first player rolls the die and takes the corresponding number of items from the collection of objects. The player puts each piece into a space on their tray. The second player rolls the die and also takes the corresponding number of items from those remaining in the centre. However, if there are insufficient items, they take the balance from the opposing player’s tray.
Once all the items have been removed from the centre, each player takes the number of items required by their throw of the die from the other player’s tray. Items are always placed so that there is one piece in each space on a tray. The game is won by the player who fills their Ten Frame Tray and, therefore, gains all ten things.
