everything curriculum | February 2021

and we look forward to the time when COVID–19 restrictions are lifted so we can start these again. To find out more about the work of our Mini Life Coaches, please visit our website at:

Our commitment to the wellbeing of all members of our school community includes staff training on risk factors and protective factors of mental health and wellbeing and has included whole–staff training led by our local CAMHS practitioner. In developing our emotional health and wellbeing provision for pupils and staff, we benchmarked our practice against the standards of the national AcSEED Award to support our next school improvement steps. We are proud to share that we have met the national AcSEED criteria for emotional wellbeing and mental health support, and we have therefore been accredited with the AcSEED Award. Copley Junior is the first primary/junior school in Yorkshire to be awarded the AcSEED accreditation!

At Copley, staff morale and wellbeing is well supported by our senior leadership team who listen and support our staffing team so well. Initiatives such as an additional planning day prior to each half term help to ensure teachers have a well– deserved break at half term. At the same time, our higher level teaching assistants lead a ‘Wonderful Wellbeing Day’ for children, so they have a day off timetable for yoga, sport and emotional literacy activities, as planned by our Mini Life Coach team.

As well as carefully sequencing our curriculum delivery to maximise the progression of skills, curriculum enrichment experiences lift not only the children, but staff morale too. This year, our visit from Father Christmas (in his vintage sports car!) and our ‘Polar Express’ experience provided a magical and memorable end of term for us all.

As we now cope with the demands of supporting 50% of pupils in school and 50% of pupils at home with remote learning, the support we gain from our colleagues is more important than ever – if we can finish the day with laughter and a chocolate biscuit, then all is well!

Benchmarking our provision against the standards of the national AcSEED Award has supported our school improvement journey and the award scheme has enabled us to celebrate our achievements.
