Elysian Residences secures £16m development loan
Retirement living developer Elysian Residences has secured a £16m loan from digital bank OakNorth and real estate lender REL Finance. Founded in 2013, Elysian Residences
specialises in the creation and management of high-end retirement communities, with a portfolio comprising 11 developments either in operation, under planning, or actively under construction.
The new loan will enable enabling Elysian
to deliver additional apartments to the market.
Elysian Residences CEO Gavin Stein said: “We are pleased to work with REL Finance, and to work with OakNorth on this facility, which will enable additional apartments to reach an area where high-quality senior living is under- supplied. Our plans continue to be supported
ultimately by our customers, where we see many areas which do not have the supply of senior living communities which offer a choice of high-quality accommodation, with exceptional amenities.” Deepesh Thakrar, managing director of debt finance at OakNorth, commented: “We are delighted to once again support Elysian, a long-standing OakNorth customer, as they continue to deliver exceptional retirement living communities across the UK. This transaction underlines our commitment to backing experienced operators with strong track records and ambitious growth plans. With the recent merger with Audley Group further enhancing its market position, we look forward to seeing Elysian continue to set new benchmarks in quality and innovation for the sector.”
Tashin Morjaria, REL Finance co-founder
& director, added: “This transaction marks REL Finance’s first facility within the retirement living sector, and we are delighted to support Elysian Residences – a company recognised as a best-in-class operator and developer within the space. Their meticulous approach to design and dedication to resident wellbeing make them an ideal partner, aligning with REL Finance’s core values and growth aspirations. Furthermore, this loan underscores our growing collaboration with OakNorth, reflecting our shared commitment to dynamic, market-responsive funding solutions for the UK real estate sector.”

Scarborough Care Home first to join Freemasons scheme
Cayton View Care Home in Scarborough has become the first in the world to officially join the Freemasons’ new ‘Masonic Aware’ initiative. The home welcomed members of the
Freemasons of Yorkshire, North and East Ridings last week, including Provincial Grand Master Dr David Chambers, for a special ceremony to mark the occasion. The visit included speeches, refreshments, and the unveiling of a commemorative plaque. The new partnership aims to ensure
Freemasons and their families who move into care are recognised, supported, and connected to the organisation if they wish to be. Ahead of the visit, all Cayton View team members completed training on the values and history of Freemasonry, equipping them to deliver tailored care to those with Masonic links. As part of the scheme, every new
resident at Cayton View will be asked if they have any connection to the Freemasons. Where a link is identified, and the resident wants to maintain it, the care home will help facilitate that relationship through a dedicated point of contact provided by the Masonic Province. Leah Moon, general manager at
Cayton View, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be partnering with the Freemasons. They are an incredible organisation that does fantastic work for the communities they’re involved in, and we are very excited to welcome their members.” Dr David Chambers commented:
“We would like to thank Cayton View for becoming the very first Masonic Aware care home and are very much looking forward to expanding this initiative.”
“We were attracted to Swanborough House as it’s such a well-run home and very highly regarded. Daisy, Swanborough’s manager, is an inspirational leader and runs a wonderful service, with an amazing staff team, delivering exceptional care to all her residents living with acquired brain injuries.”
