New opening
over the course of around 18 moths, with staff numbers increasing in sync. As mentioned above, at the time of my
visit, Braintree Mews was about a fortnight from final completion, so the home was a hive of activity as Horizon added the finishing – and largely superficial – touches to the build. The home has been built and finished to
a very high standard, and it is clear from the minute one steps into the Art Deco-inspired reception area that Horizon has fulfilled its brief impeccably. Décor throughout is calm and neutral, while still boasting distinctive touches in the form of patterned wallpaper and distinctive light fittings. For its part, meanwhile, Avery specified the extensive use of branded elements in the interior design, and the provider’s logo can be seen – albeit subtly – on everything from cupboard door handles to the carpentry detailing on door frames.
Rooms are spacious and airy, with state- of-the-art wet rooms and plenty of natural light. Each floor features bright dining areas where ‘restaurant-quality dining’ is promised, and Braintree Mews boasts facilities such as a hair salon and barbers, a therapy room, a library, a cinema, a garden room, and a café.
Despite being located in an urban location near the centre of Braintree, and also close to a road, Braintree Mews is quiet, both inside and out, and substantial landscaped gardens featuring trees, wildflowers, and planting areas, are already starting to take shape. A gardening club is promised for those residents wishing to get their hands dirty. According to Avery’s Adrian Doyle, Avery’s wellbeing programme will cater for “…all mobility levels, offering engaging daily activities and events to promote physical and mental wellbeing for our residents. “We provide a range of activities and
clubs developed alongside our residents,” he continues, “such as arts and crafts and light exercise. We will also welcome performers and community groups to our home for themed events and entertainment.”
To the Horizon By the end of this year, a vibrant and growing resident community will be living at Braintree Mews, enjoying the many facilities this lovely new home has to offer. At the time of writing, Avery Healthcare have a number of projects in various stages of completion, and Phil Holding and his team are already
hard at work on their next care project. We very much look forward to seeing what they have next on the Horizon.
